  • US Federal regulation Check 21 is the most important innovation provided by the world's banking institutions in the recent years; although issued for US domestic banks, its basic concept is gradually propagating all over the world becoming the actual or future standard for almost all countries with relevant circulation of checks.

Such new approach on check clearing has widened the possibilities for performing the check truncation in the presenting bank that can be done on ATM-like basis, directly by the teller or in back-office depending on both dimension and the policy of the branch.

ERS 3000 is conceived as a back-office check Encoder, Reader, Scanner, Sorter best suitable for low/medium volume branches or service centers and, thanks to its compact image scanning station built on contact sensors, it fully complies with the Check 21 style clearing.

Nevertheless, thanks to its amount encoding station and to both modularity and upgradability, it can be used for traditional check processing as well, making it perfect for handling the transition phase or the future migration to Check 21 clearing, saving in this way the initial investment of the bank.

Compactness and performance make ERS 3000 an unrivaled solution for check clearing among desktop class machines.

    Main features

Checks are positioned in the 300 items capable feeder that is provided with an automatic double document insertion control and followed by the reading station, which can be MICR, OCR or combined for the highest decoding accuracy and performed by means of neural techniques for higher immunity to noise or printing defects.

After reading, in case of traditional processing checks may be stopped in the subsequent viewing station, where a supervisor can enter the check amount in the system, and/or they continue to the endorsement station where it will be possible to print a front stamp and a single text line on the rear.

Then, checks enter the amount MICR encoding station where the amount, entered or retrieved from a data base, is printed on the reserved codeline area.

Later on, checks enter the scanning station capable of capturing max 200dpi resolution front and rear images, 256 gray levels plus black & white, and under supervision of the driving application they are stacked in the output sorting station composed by three 200 items pockets and by an additional reject pocket for troubled checks.

A final step is represented by the dispensing station, which includes a specially provided box for storing retracted chequebooks that the customer failed to withdraw.

Both image scanning station and encoding station are modular, that means image scanning function may be not included at purchase time and added at a later time, or alternatively encoding station may be not included at purchase time as for true exclusive Check 21 compliant applications.

    Software

A Microsoft Windows ActiveX software driver is supplied along with a testing Microsoft Windows application that can be used for operating the machine and showing all the functionality.
